Importance of lighting
Take a look around you. Light is everywhere, it’s more than our vision or a mere value of our ability to see. Light is life itself. From early times we needed the light of a warm fire and the blaze of the sun, at night we once needed the cold lunar light of the moon. It governed our rhythms and controlled our time of harvest and our time of rest. Today, as mankind has moved indoors, we use light for everything; working, playing, existing and even entertainment. Today psychologists know that light isn’t only essential to our design but it’s part of health itself. Light is beneficial to our well being. Light can fill our psyche with warmth or make our spirits soar! Whether we’re simply filling the shadows or beaming lights into the heavens one thing is true and that is that light is an eternal part of who we are and how we live. In that spirit we present and introduce you to the new era of lighting. LED Living Technologies.
What is an LED?
LEDs or Light Emitting Diodes as they are sometimes called had their molecules spawned from the earth itself. Once lingering minerals and metals deep within the earth were discovered and shaped by the hands of science during the JFK Space Race to discover and to coax light from these materials where it was never found before. At their core, LEDs are technically semiconductors. In their simplest form the building blocks of all semiconductor materials is simple sand. Silica is purified by the man made process of smelting in a crucible and then grown into crystals by the modern process of pulling.
Through the multiple step process of wafer fabrication, deposition, bonding and encapsulating we end up with a very and simple device. A device well suited to its task. LEDs once energized with electricity produce photons. Photons are the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that we call light. It’s almost mystical. To this day there has never been a device more capable of producing light more efficiently with less waste of thermal energy than the LED. Twice the light, half the power.
